ALTERNATIVES
During the development of the functional design study four alternatives have been proposed for detailed evaluation, these include shifting PTH 1 north, PTH 1 on the same alignment, shifting PTH 1 south, and separate interchanges for PTH 16 & PR 305.
Alternative A: PTH 1 Shift North
download Alternative A

Pros
- No intersections on PTH 1 or PTH 16
- CN Railway and PTH 1 overpasses closer together, requiring less fill on PTH 16
- Minimizes disturbance to wildlife habitat
Cons
- Major property impacts including removal of one residential farmyard
- Potential stream channel re-alignment (PTH 1)
- Potentially disruptive to know sensitive habitat
Alternative B: PTH 1 on Existing Alignment
download Alternative B

Pros
- No intersections on PTH 1 or PTH 16
- Utilize existing PTH 1 Eastbound lanes and Rat Creek crossing for Service Road
- Property impacts minimized
- Minimizes disturbance to wildlife habitat
Cons
- Potential stream channel re-alignment (PTH 1)
Alternative C: PTH 1 Shift South
download Alternative C

Pros
- No intersections on PTH 1 or PTH 16
- Utilize existing PTH 1 Eastbound lanes and Rat Creek crossing for Service Road
- Configuration of Westbound to Northbound Ramp and Southbound to Westbound Ramp minimizes width for CN Railway overpass structures
- Minimizes disturbance on Rat Creek
- Eliminates direct access to PR 305
Cons
- Close to suspected environmentally sensitive habitat
- Potential impact to one residential farm yard
Alternative D: Separate Interchanges for Highways 16 & 305
download Alternative D

Pros
- Simplifies traffic operations at PTH 16
- Potential benefit for access to industrial park
- No intersections on PTH 1 or PTH 16
- Re-uses existing PTH 1 Eastbound lanes and maximizes re-use of PTH 1 Rat Creek crossing for Service Road
- Property impacts minimized at PTH 16
- Minimizes impact on wildlife habitat
Cons
- PR 305 realigned
- Requires steam channel re-alignment (PTH 1)
- Potential impacts to three residential farmyards
